How To: Set the MIDI Channel & MIDI Out to “THRU” On the HX Stomp

Purchased the HX Stomp? Nice! You are probably wanting to get it setup in your rig to be controlled with MIDI. The first, and most important, step to doing this is setting the MIDI channel on the unit – especially if you are controlling more pedals via MIDI. Another thing we cover is setting the HX Stomp’s MIDI Output to THRU. This is also important if you are daisy chaining multiple MIDI pedals.

This may seem a little “basic” to you MIDI pros out there; however this is the root cause of a lot of questions we receive regarding this unit (or other MIDI pedals).

The MIDI channel that the HX Stomp is set to really doesn’t matter, it can be set to anything. The most important thing is to ensure that the HX Stomp is on a different MIDI channel than any of the other MIDI controlled pedals.

The HX line of products have a great editing software, however it is important to at least know how to accomplish these two things. You may find yourself in a pinch, without a computer, needing to do something like this. At the very least, this will show you how to get to the Menu.

Setting the MIDI Channel:

  1. Hold down both page buttons on the HX Stomp
  2. Press the page right “>” to see “Global Settings”
  3. Click the first knob to enter Global Settings
  4. Use the first knob to select the MIDI channel by turning it clockwise/counter-clockwise

Setting the MIDI Out to “THRU”

If you are still in the Global Settings Menu, Skip to step 4.

  1. Hold down both page buttons on the HX Stomp
  2. Press the page right “>” to see “Global Settings”
  3. Click the first knob to enter Global Settings
  4. Use the second knob to set the THRU to ON

*Setting this to “THRU” is important, especially, if you have any MIDI pedals after the HX Stomp in MIDI sequence that are being controlled via a MIDI Controller. Turning the “THRU” on, will ensure that any MIDI data being sent from the controller will not be skewed by the HX Stomp
